Melanie Dekker - Sunshine from Vancouver Tour

Saturday, Mar 16, 2013 - Hildesheim

Fun stroll through and to Hildesheim from our hotel (well known to me from playing here at Jazz Fest and a few other times!) ; We find a lunch stop that serves schnapps in beautiful upside down vases - vom bass. I like 'raspberry'. It's a more than out sold venue and it feels like a perfect ending to a great tour; our Russian technician is 'cool' in every way; and it's a good show where I take extra musical liberties and we get extra musicians on stage too: Thomas Fuchs and Carsten Lips (what a last name!). Thanks to all those there, especially Sussane :) We rocked the bar at the hotel and Allan in particular rose to the occasion by singing songs with my guitar (yes, I have this on video for a small price!). Sunday morning I pulled out a Hacky Sack and it turns out two of us can also juggle quite well too (no, not me!). We slowly drove to hannover; and wow! More snow! A sauna was perfect, the mood easy with smiles all around. Prepared our luggage to be as light as possible. Of special note: Allan has managed to fit his bass into his suitcase (to avoid the 2nd bag $100 fee), and David acoustic folds in half and neatly tucks into a back pack. My banjo's got to travel on my knee, just about the way it ought to be.

Friday, Mar 15, 2013 - Achim

Achim is near Bremen and it's a sweet town. They proudly pre-sold lots of tickets, so there's a good buzz going on. We all walk a lot today, and in my headphones I have Chaka Khan singing in my ears. Familiar faces in the crowd mean so so much to me! THANK YOU!

Thursday, Mar 14, 2013 - Neuss

Neuss rhymes with 'noise'. We are moving North now and we smile realizing each others preferences, from the seats we like to sit in to the snack food we choose. Allan: tomato soup, David: .studentenfruter, Me: dark chocolate & a late morning coffee. On stage the boys like either side. We are a smooth team and there is no tension, even if I were to look for it. I've added to the concert a Chaka Khan song called 'tell me something good' and its tricky for me. I play David's electric, in this case, the easy part. Li'l Joe is a quick sound tech whose reverb channel had a glitch and made us sound like we were up in the heavens for sometime. Lol. I enjoyed a prerecorded interview just after sound check, good questions:) My high heel boots caught on my guitar cable in the break and sent her flying. Both Allan and David dove to catch it. All okay.

Wednesday, Mar 13 - Wuppertal

We notice the town's 'hanging train' which hangs and travels under the rail, and we drive around to find an alternative hotel, that wasn't planned for. I also feel frustrated because the venue had wanted to cancel the show last week ... deep breath though and a band decision to go in with extra big Canadian smiles. My favourite magician Frank Hoffman joins us on keys and a magic trick and the venue is full! I ask the audience to move in a little closer ... My banjo song 'worry gets you nowhere' has extra passion behind it tonight :)  There was magic on the stage tonight (literally!) as Frank Hoffman a renowned German magician joined us with tricks, laughter and some excellent piano bits too!

Tuesday, Mar 12, 2013 - Marburg

Last night there was a horrific 100 vehicle car crash on the A3 autobahn, but luckily all is clear now and we weren't involved. Today we are unable to check-in until after the concert, so we went searching together through the slushy cobblestone streets with many steps and curves and a grand schloss for a new sweater for Allan. Found. Good deals this time of year as spring is expected but clearly hasn't arrived. If you made it through the snow blizzard to get to our acoustic lounge concert, special thanks!

Monday, Mar 11, 2013 - Kassel

First we picked up Allan Rodger now on bass. Then a magical journey - through the steep snowy steps and paths of the Hercules structure and its castle. Only a few other snowy footsteps around. The concert was like a warm welcoming with Ecki and Thomas PF present- they've seen approx. 20 of my concerts, and we especially noticed that the high energy hotel manager had done extra promotions for the show. I am amazed by everything today.

Sunday, Mar 10, 2013 - Fulda

Fulda bound where Sven our keyboardist is dropped off at home ... we stay with our wunderbar guitarist friend, Stefan Rapp. One day of rest and connectivity with ourselves and each other. Sinclair and Rapp jammed all morning and I had a different kind of fun as I sent out packages of CDs, and then I was online, mostly to collect photos and put them on Facebook.

Saturday, Mar 9, 2013 - Armorbach

Amor-love. It is so pretty and quaint here. Cozy ... and yes that also means hard to find parking. During sound-check, the sound men laughed a lot. Perhaps, that's like a surgeon laughing during a rehearsal presentation. Very unusual and potentially unnerving. Full house and Johannes Koch my wonderful radio promoter came with his wife and gifted us CDs from other artists. My two favourite were the best of Eva Cassidy and Gunther Gabriel does Johnny Cash. We sat in the theater seats afterwards with the staff and promoter. It was Sven's last night and a little celebration ensued.

Friday, Mar 8, 2013 - Obertrubach & Untertrubach

A big studio lounge concert in a little snow covered glorious valley. Video and audio was recorded ... and I am not nervous about that. The hot lights almost took out Sven, and he got winded on stage! It seems many famous bands have to come to this region to record or rest, including Eric Burden. Rudiger my wonderful giant Gnome friend surprised me with a visit and brought flowers. I fed some trout in the trubach.

Wednesday, Mar 6, 2013 - Sommerda

Venue too small, though I say it with a smile as the sound was super HiFi and appreciated. Great to see Opa Budi and Hands from EEE . Fabulous homemade Hungarian goulash! Laughed about two band names. #1 Say this as quickly as you can without laughing: Dave Dee Dozy Beaky Mick & Tich. #2 Enjoy and try to forget the name of this top Rolling Stones Tribute cover band : Star Fucker.
